A beautiful smith, not just beautiful teeth!
Our experienced dentists are now offering Muscle Relaxants to treat chronic tooth grinding, gummy smiles and to reduce facial wrinkles!
Anti wrinkle injections, commonly known as Botulinum Toxin A and in many brands; is a non-invasive procedure popular with both men and women involving the use of an injectable medication that temporarily relaxes the muscles.
This helps smooth out dynamic lines or wrinkles on the face resulting in a more youthful look. Anti-wrinkle injections relax the action of the underlying muscles and minimize the resulting lines on the skin which create a prematurely aged appearance person.
Commonly, lines appearing on the forehead, between the eyes and around the eyes have been the most common areas treated for aesthetic reasons. However, dentists can also use this remarkable substance to reduce tooth grinding (bruxism), and help treat jaw joint disorders (TMD), improve the appearance of “gummy smiles” and many other conditions caused by undesired muscle action.
What is Botulinum Toxin A?
Botulinum Toxin A is a nerve agent made in a laboratory under strictly controlled conditions by the bacteria Clostridium botulinum. Botulinum Toxin A acts by temporarily blocking a neurotransmitter resulting in temporary muscle paralysis and wears off over time as its metabolised.
What can you expect at the time of your procedure?
The product is injected directly into the muscles that cause the wrinkles, using a very fine insulin syringe. We place the product at several sites to ensure an even spread of the effect. Some localised discomfort and tenderness can occur, but no sedation or local anaesthesia is required. (You don’t use numbing cream for Botox or Dysport only for Dermal Fillers)
What are the results?
The brands we use takes effect 2-3 days after injection, with maximum effect at about 1 to 2 weeks. Its effects generally last for approximately 3-5 months, depending on your muscle activity and metabolism.
Who can’t get Anti-wrinkle injections?
Muscle Relaxants are contraindicated in people with neuromuscular disorders such as myasthenia gravis, those taking certain medications, and pregnant or breast feeding women. The dentist will check your medical history and let you know if there are any issues.
Here’s what our trained dentists can do:
Hyperactive lip muscles can be relaxed, reducing excessive lip elevation during smiling and eliminating the “Gummy Smile”.
Forehead lines can be softened – Dentists should now look at the frame that surrounds the teeth to complete the picture.
Fine lines around the mouth can be reduced by the injection of facial injectables in this area.
Frown lines between the eyes can be improved dramatically.
Injections can be used to treat the masticatory muscles in cases of Bruxism/TMD/Facial Pain and to soften a square jawline.
